Applying for the Experience of a Lifetime
In early spring of 2023, hundreds of Brothers in Sigma Phi Epsilon applied to go to the annual Ruck Leadership Institute. The opportunity of attending one of the most important experiences and events as a SigEp was at the fingertips for our Brothers. Sooner than later, our Brothers who applied would know who got invited out to Richmond, Virginia.
Then the emails started to arrive, brothers Jake Headley, Nathaniel Hoeye, and Lucas Jones were accepted to attend. With help from the Idaho Beta Alumni Volunteer Committee, the Brothers had their spots confirmed and all that was left was to wait until the trip.
The Time has Come
Finally, the brothers flew out to Virginia on June 13th and were able to get to campus the next day. The event starting with an opening dinner where the excitement for what was to come was tantalizing. Separated into Teams Black, Orange and Green, our brothers would be learning and developing their leadership skills in accordance with other SigEp Brothers from around the nation.
The ideas of Sound Body and Sound Mind were pushed to their limits. Multiple opportunities to not only learn the past and present of Sigma Phi Epsilon but what we aspire to become in the future. And most importantly the “Why” of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Brothers created connections with people that will last a lifetime, and learned skills that they will build upon going forward.
Coming Back to Boise
As the brothers ended the amazing trip with a closing dinner, and then flights back to Boise, Idaho, it became clear that the atmosphere and environment of leadership will follow them there. As Ruck came to a close, Jake, Lukas, and Nate reconvened and had a sense of not only appreciation for the experience they had, but a passion to continue to develop this brand new chapter at Boise State University and continue to set the standard for what a Fraternity should look like Nationwide.
